The Terrapin Engine is unlocking a brand new source of clean power for Alberta by converting low grade thermal energy into electricity.

The engine has been purpose built to operate on top of any source of 80 – 130°C flowing liquid. The Terrapin Engine harnesses the temperature difference between a working fluid and the ambient air, using cyclical compression to drive the engine, to produce clean power.

Low grade waste heat exists throughout Alberta’s industrial facilities (SAGD, Forestry, Mining, Refining and other facilities) and can also be extracted from active or end of life cycle oil & gas wells through co-production on active wells or full scale retrofits of abandoned wells.
